Elaine started her duties on the 15^th May 2010 and is settling into the job very well. A recently retired officer from  Am Assurance Bhd, Elaine brings with her a rich experience from the corporate world  to our organization.

DATELINE TUESDAY MARCH 30 2010

Anu Jennifer, a past president of the K Kids Club and the first student in her school to score 7 A in her UPSR exam, was honoured together with 4 other high achievers by sponsor club, the Kiwanis Club of Klang.

A group of teenagers set sail for an adventure at MY GOPENG RESORT, PERAK. We headed there to attend the KIWANIS KEY LEADER CAMP which was held on the 13-15^th of March. The aim of the camp was to instill leadership qualities.

21^st March 2010 - Every year on the 21^st of March, World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) is celebrated around the world. The date 21^st March was chosen to signify the uniqueness of Down syndrome in the triplication (trisomy) of the 21^st chromosome which is used synonymously with Down syndrome.The objective of WDSD is to commemorate, create and accomplish a competent level of awareness and understanding of Down syndrome. The desired outcome of WDSD is to highlight the potential and abilities of people with Down Syndrome, and making them part of our communities.

The Kiwanis Clubs in Division 8  have launched the  “GOING TO SCHOOL WITH KIWANIS”. They have  set a target of 3000 school bags for needy children in Perak, but with the huge response from the public , they have hit a target of 5000.

Not only that, a group of community leaders and school board leaders were so  impressed by the Kiwanian's dedication, they decided to form two new clubs- Kiwanis Club of Sg Siput which was formed on the  27^th November 2009 and the  Kiwanis Club of Bidor was formed on the 28^th November 2009.

KIWANIANS OF LUZON DISTRICT APPEAL FOR AID

I was in Manila soon after the devastating typhoon struck the city and was fortunate to meet with the Governor Vincente Punay Jr and past Governor Boy Valencia to discuss the crisis and how ASPAC Nations could assist.

The damage to lives of many of the poor in Manila has been enormous and Kiwanians there are doing all they can to assist those in need. The priority now is the supply of food and water and for this they are needing funds. So far they are exhausting whatever disaster relief funds that they have and urgently need more aid from the rest of the world.

Donations can be made to "KIWANIS MALAYSIA" - please specify at the back of the cheque "Payable to the Kiwanis Luzon District". We will then ensure that the funds are sent to the Phillipines.

The Kiwanis Club of Kuching held its charter night at glittering function at the Hornbill Restaurant of the Sarawak Club of Kuching. The Deputy  Works Minister , Datuk Yong Khoon Seng , was there to witness the installation of KCK’s  inaugural board which was conducted by YT Soo, Lieutenant Governor of Division 1.

It is with deep sadness that I have to announce that Edwin Ho, Past President of  the Kiwanis Club of Cheras, passed away on Wednesday the 2^nd September 2009 after a long battle with brain cancer.

Rowland Gomez, our District Administration Secretary, passed away on the 29th August 2009. He was travelling on the night train to Singapore to attend his  annual pilgrimage to the Novena Church there. When he arrived in JB in the morning he had passed away peacefully in his sleep

Governors, Governors elect, District Administration Secretaries, Youth Chairs and Trainers from 7 Districts and 2 Nations gathered at the Pan Pacific Hotel KLIA for an Education Conference conducted by Kiwanis International.

Upon receiving a request from Immediate Past President Daya Ratnayake of the Kiwanis Club of Colombo City to source a Braille Typewriter for  Indunil Kumari ,a young blind student 9 years of age , the Kiwanis Club of Klang voted to donate the unit from the clubs children’s fund.

He may be 11 years old, but our newest K Kids member Caleb Yong from the K Kids at SKR Taman Megah gave a flawless performance at the Mid Term conference held on the 19^th April 2009 at Kelab Golf Sultan Abdul  Aziz Shah.

Nigel Jones the Director of Public Relations for the Salvation Army in Malaysia delivered the key note address for the delegates at the9th Mid Term meeting. In speaking to the Kiwanis delegates he outlined the Salvation Army’s Mission in Malaysia, its history and showed areas where Kiwanis and the Salvation Army could work together for the common good of children. The Salvation army runs 8 homes for children throughout Malaysia, of which 2 are in Kuching Sarawak. He also enlightened the delegate son how they raise funds for their centers

Kiwanis Malaysia celebrates the formation on 2 new clubs and the chartering of the newest K Kids club in 48 hours.

Kiwanis One Day is the first Saturday of every April where all Kiwanis family members around the world will unite in a day of hands-on service. 

Last Saturday, 4th April, was Kiwanis One Day 2009. Kiwanis Club of Kuala Lumpur (“KCKL”)organised a trip to Zoo Negara where KCKL renewed our sponsorship RM2,000 for the upkeep of the small-clawed otters. The President of Zoo Negara, YBhg Datuk Ismail Hutson received the sponsorship from our Community Service Director, Kwn Hasnah Awang.

The 26th Kiwanis Treasure Hunt 2009 is now on. It will be held from 30 May - 1 June 2009 and the destination will be Pulai Springs Resort, Johore.The target is to raise RM300,000 from this annual event and as of Press Lanuch on Tuesday, 17th March 2009, a total of RM180,000 has been raised. This includes a pledge of RM30,000 from the Minister of Transport, Dato'Seri Ong Tee Kiat. Syabas, Dato' Seri.

Dateline 4^th April 2009. The Kiwanis Club of Bukit Bandaraya (KCBB) successfully sponsored and chartered their first K-Kids Club for students in SK Taman Megah. The school is one of the premier national schools in Petaling Jaya with a student population of nearly 1,000 students.

Past Governor Mark Matthew had informed the District that he will be presenting the Distinguished Club and Division awards at the Mid Term Business sessions to be held on the 19^th April 2009.

“There will be total of 24 Clubs and 5 Divisions who have attained distinguished status. My congratulations go to all of them.  The successful clubs all and 5 Divisions will be notified shortly by Rowland Gomez” he said.

It was a proud day for KC Klang’s President Chris Foo as she led the charter ceremony for Klang’s first Key Club at Sri Acmar Secondary School on Monday  30 March 2009.

The simple ceremony was held at the school assembly at 8 a.m. in the morning. Kiwnaians in attendance were President KC Klang Chris Foo [who is also the Kiwanis Advisor] ,Governor Elect Doris Choo, Lt Governor Division 4 Shirley Sobey, District Secretary Stewart LaBrooy and club member Tan Sun Sun.

President Chris Foo thanked the Headmaster of the school Mr. Ng Ber Seek for supporting the formation of the club as well as Ms Josephine Charles the Faculty Advisor from Sri Acmar Secondary School for giving up her time to attend meetings and guide the students.

Charter President  Sheetal Kaur, Vice President Alvin Puah, Secretary Jaazmint Lee and Treasurer Irene Lee were inducted together the members of the Board by Lt Governor Shirley Sobey and witnessed by Governor elect Doris Choo.

The Kiwanis Club of Bandaraya Ipoh celebrated World Down Syndrome Day with week- long Kiwanis Carnival at a leading departmental store in Ipoh. The event was used to raise funds for the Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation (Ipoh Centre).

International President Don Canaday has given Governor Fred a bag full of "Big Heat" pins for distribution.

This great looking pin can be yours if, when you see the Governor, you promise to bring in a new member and he will give you one!!

A fund raising dinner is being organized  by the Kiwanis Club of Muar, Johor on 27th April 2009 at the Yuan Shun Restaurant, No 81,Jalan Abdul Rahman, 84000 Muar Johor. The dinner which kicks off at  7.00pm aims to generate funds to support  the autistic children  in Muar through NASOM and other needy children in Muar in line with the Kiwanis  motto “Serving the Children of the world”.

 The Dinner will be graced by YB Dato‘ Sri Dr. Ng Yen Yen, Menteri Pembangunan Wanita,Keluarga & Masyarakat and those attending will stand to win attractive lucky draw prizes.

The District Board has launched the 2008-2009 Membership Growth and Retention Contest.

In a statement Organizing Chairman PG Yong Kar Kwee said :

Past Governor Lee Kuan Yong has reported to the District Board that there has been much progress made on the formation of the Kiwanis Malaysia Foundation.

KC Bandaraya Ipoh will be holding a 6 day carnival ay Jaya Jusco Ipoh as part of the World Down Syndrome day celebrations. The program will run from 17-23^rd  March 09. They have a lot of activities lined up and they are planning to  raise RM 70,000.

The official opening of the KDSF Ipoh Centre will be held on the 21 March 09 , World Down Syndrome Day.

Dateline January 15 2009 – The Club held a  party for 62 children at the Bethany Home from 9.00 a.m. – 12.00 p.m..

February 1 2009 – The club visited the Sitiawan Children’s Home and brought Chinese New Year Goodies

Dateline February 15 –President Tan Kim Seng and members of the Kiwanis Club of Larut Matang presented food parcels and ang pows for the needy at the Dewan Rukun Tetanga Taman Aun Say, Taiping. The event was organized by Kiwanian Michael Chuah and the guset of honour was Y Bhg Lee Hoak Tow.

Planned activity for March – On  March 15the club is organizing a Children’s Creativity day for 100 primary children during the 1^st term holidays. The  event is jointly organized by MINDS (Malaysian Invention and Design Society)
